At the season-closing concert of Hungary’s most renowned chamber orchestra, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra once again steps beyond the perceived boundaries of the chamber music genre and ventures into symphonic territory — a bold move their audience has come to expect and admire.

Artistic director and world-famous cellist István Várdai shared his thoughts on the upcoming performance:
“For me, among all the works of the season, the most thrilling project is Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, where I’ll have the honour of sharing the stage with two exceptional musical minds, Kirill Gerstein and Ilya Gringolts. In the first half of the program, there is another highlight: Beethoven’s piano concerto, which Kirill will perform in a ‘play and lead’ style — both as soloist and conductor — allowing us to create a uniquely intimate and sensitive chamber music atmosphere, even within the framework of a grand symphonic work.”

Kirill Gerstein, a captivating pianist and regular guest at the world’s most prestigious concert halls and orchestras, began his musical journey in jazz before turning to classical music, studying under the legendary pianist and pedagogue Ferenc Rados in Budapest. Ilya Gringolts, a returning guest of the orchestra, was previously introduced to Hungarian audiences only through virtual performances during the pandemic. Now, at last, the opportunity arises for a live, in-person encounter.
