The night will open with him leading the orchestra playing one of Beethoven’s shortest, yet more complex etudes for string quartets.

Afterwards the audience will have the chance to marvel the solo of our outstanding Austrian guest artist Gottlieb Wallisch, who started his musical career at the age of 7 and then made his debut at the Grand Hall of the Vienna Musikverein at the age of 12. Wallisch is currently a professor at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. In 2019, he toured Vienna and Slovenia with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, also recording a joint performance at the Wiener Konzerthaus.

After the break, the programme will continue with the devastating notes of the “Kreutzer Sonata” inspired by a Tolstoy novel and conducted by Mathieu Herzog, while the night will conclude with the solo of Wallisch and the trumpet music of Tamás Pálfalvi bringing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 1 to life. In the 1933 concerto written in C minor the trumpet plays such an essential part that at some points it might even be considered a double concerto.
