The Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra keeps building thoughtfully: it comes up with something fresh as well as interesting from time to time. Tastefully mixing the familiar with the new, the ensemble aims to insert concertos little known in this country, but played more and more frequently abroad, between two timeless classics.  more

The orchestra’s ever-growing fan base might have a feeling that the concerts are opening windows onto the trends and movements of the international music life and, of course, the artists who play a key role in such developments.

Such passionate musician is Dutch violinist, Liza Ferschtman, who is both the soloist of the evening and leads the orchestra throughout the concert. Her strong personality will surely present a deeper, more meaningful interpretation of the pieces. To further ensure a unique concert experience, Pablo Barragán plays Hartmann’s exceptionally difficult clarinet solo.

Liza Ferschtman

The Dutch-born violinist has been praised for her passionate performance and charismatic stage presence; she believes her purpose in life is nothing less than the love for music and to share her joy with others. Born into a family of musicians to Russian expatriate parents, her first memories include dancing to Chopin’s etudes while her sister played the piano. Graduating from Amsterdam, she continued her studies in Philadelphia and London. In 2006, she won her country’s most prestigious professional award, the Dutch Music Award, and within a few years she had performed at many prestigious venues. Her repertoire ranges from early Baroque pieces to modern music, while she has performed all of Bach’s solo violin works in several concerts. In the recent years she has worked with musicians such as Elisabeth Leonskaja, Amihai Grosz, Leonard Slatkin, Shlomo Mintz and Neeme Järvi, and made her Hungarian debut with the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 2013. She has completed seven recordings, most recently Korngold’s Violin Concerto and Bernstein’s Serenade, and was awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau of the Netherlands in 2021.

Pablo Barragán

Born in Andalusia, the Spanish clarinettist completed his higher education at the Seville Conservatory and the Fundación Barenboim-Said, before continuing his studies in Basel in 2009, where he attended master classes with world-class soloists such as François Benda, Dimitri Ashkenazy and Martin Fröst. Since 2007, he has been a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, where he has worked with Daniel Barenboim and has also achieved considerable success as a teacher.

He has given concerts as soloist with the most renowned orchestras and has been a guest of the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, among others. With his faithful collaborators, pianist Juan Pérez Floristán and cellist Andrei Ioniţă, he recorded a brilliant album of Brahms’ works in 2018. Barragán believes that music alone can touch what is intangible, while a critic praised the soloist for his magical, soulful playing. As an exclusive artist of the workshop, Barragán plays Backun Lumière clarinets only.
